About our 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tourThe 4-day tour offers two full nights in the Merzouga desert instead of just one, allowing for a more relaxed and immersive Sahara experience. With less daily driving pressure, you have time for multiple camel rides at different times of day, optional activities like quad biking or visiting Berber villages, and a deeper connection with the desert environment. It's ideal for travelers who want to fully experience the Sahara without feeling rushed.
On your full day in Merzouga (Day 3), you can choose from various optional activities: quad biking (ATV) in the dunes (approximately €50-€70 for 1-2 hours), sandboarding (often available free at camp), 4x4 excursions to explore the desert surroundings, visiting the nearby town of Rissani with its traditional market, or simply relaxing and enjoying the tranquil desert atmosphere. Your guide can help arrange any activities of interest.
Most desert camps in Merzouga have limited electricity (often solar-powered) for basic lighting in the tents and common areas. Some luxury camps may have charging points. Wi-Fi is generally not available in the desert camps, as they are located in remote dune areas. This is part of the authentic desert experience—disconnecting from technology and connecting with nature. We recommend bringing portable chargers and enjoying the digital detox.
On the 4-day tour, you'll experience multiple camel rides at different times: sunset ride on Day 2, sunrise ride on Day 3, and another sunset ride on Day 3. This allows you to see the dunes in different lighting conditions and experience the desert atmosphere at various times of day. The 3-day tour typically includes just one sunset and one sunrise camel ride. The extended time also means less rushed transitions and more opportunities for photography.
For two nights in the desert, pack a small overnight bag with: warm layers (desert nights can be cold even in summer), comfortable walking shoes, headscarf or hat for sun protection, sunglasses, sunscreen, flashlight/headlamp, portable charger, personal toiletries, and any medications. In winter, bring a warm jacket, gloves, and hat. Your main luggage will be stored securely in the vehicle during your desert stay.
